Michelsen – Khachanov: Time TBA
H2H: 1-0
Alex Michelsen has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Washington, the American lost against Evans in the opening round in straight sets. This week in Toronto, he won against Barrios Vera in straight sets. He saved three consecutive set points in the opening set. In the second round, Michelsen upset Musetti in three tight sets. After losing the opening set 3-6, he stepped up his level and turned the match around. In the third round, Michelsen defeated Tien in straight sets comfortably. He saved three out of four breakpoints.
Karen Khachanov has won four of his last five matches. This week in Toronto, Khachanov defeated Ficovich in the opening round in straight sets. He was great under pressure, saving seven out of eight breakpoints. In the second round, Khachanov turned the match around against Nava after losing the opening set. The Russian outlasted Ruud in the 1/8-Finals in straight sets. Besides losing his serve once, Khachanov dominated on his serve.
According to the bookies, Michelsen is the underdog in this matchup, but we disagree. Michelsen dominated in the third round. At the beginning of the season under similar conditions at the Australian Open, Michelsen defeated Khachanov in straight sets. He is in solid form, and we expect him to keep this match tight.
That being said, Michelsen covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Zverev – Popyrin: Time TBA

Alexander Zverev has won three of his last five matches. This week in Toronto, Zverev defeated Walton in the opening round in straight sets. Besides losing his serve once, the German served well throughout the match. In the second round, Zverev had to dig deep to get the win over Arnaldi. After losing the opening set 6-7, he turned the match around, winning in three tight sets after playing for almost three hours. Yesterday in the 1/8-Finals, Cerundolo retired mid-match against Zverev.
Alexei Popyrin has lost four of his last five matches. Last week in Washington, the Australian lost to Wu in the opening round in three tight sets. This week in Toronto, Popyrin defeated Arseneault in the opening round in straight sets. He served great, offering and saving only one breakpoint. In the second round, the Australian upset Medvedev in three tight sets. After losing the opening set 5-7, Popyrin handled the pressure brilliantly, saving all six breakpoints in the second and third sets. In the 1/8-Finals, Popyrin upset Rune in three tight sets. After losing the opening set 4-6, he dominated in the second and third sets and turned the match around.
According to the bookies, Popyrin is the underdog in this matchup, and we agree. Zverev leads 3-0 in head-to-head meetings and has won all three meetings in straight sets. He had no problems this week in Toronto. We expect him to deliver his best tennis and win once again in straight sets.
That being said, Zverev winning in straight sets is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Alexander Zverev winning 2-0 @1.91 @bet365
