World No.2 Jannik Sinner made a winning start to the 2025 Rolex Paris Masters 1000 as he defeated Zizou Bergs in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday. The Italian continued his winning streak heading into the final Masters 1000 of the season in Bercy and made light work of the Belgian.

The 24-year-old recently won the 2025 ATP Erste Bank Open in Vienna for the second time on Sunday and captured the 21st title of his career.

In his bid to chase down rival and World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz for the year-end race for the top spot, the four-time Grand Slam champion made the first step while the latter crashed out of the opening round.

To celebrate his victory against Bergs, ATP shared a post on X and congratulated Sinner on claiming his 22nd consecutive victory on the indoor courts.

Sinner was delighted with his performance against Bergs and told the media in his post-match interview:

“I felt like mostly the movement [was good]. It’s a very unique court here. Usually, I always struggled a bit, so I’m very happy to come through the first match. I’m very happy with how I served today. I was very precise, and I also started off with a break straight away, which gives you a bit more confidence. I’m very happy about today’s performance.”

Jannik Sinner Chimes in On His Chances to Claim the Year-End World No.1

Sinner stated that he believed that it was "impossible" for him to chase down Carlos Alcaraz in their battle to end the 2025 season as World No.1.

Speaking to the media ahead of his first match in Paris, the Italian was pessimistic about his chances and was not focused on the feat, saying:

“No, it’s impossible. Honestly, I’m not thinking about this at the moment. This year, it’s not in my hands. But considering how the whole year went, you know, we have achieved some incredible things. Now I just want to finish the season in the best possible way. If I can do something great, amazing. If not, I did something great already this year.

“I will try, for me, as also last year was, December is going to be a very important month for me, because I feel like we can make a lot of changes and a lot of work there. Also, getting ready for the next season and the beginning of the season, I know how important it is for me in many scenarios."

Sinner can return to the top spot of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings if he wins the Paris Masters for a week but loses the spot to Alcaraz ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon champion needs to win both events, while the Spaniard only requires three more victories to end the year for the second time in four years.
