Jack Draper was left downbeat as he was well beaten by Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-4 at the Rome Open. It sees an incredible end for the Brit who lost in the final of Madrid and has been one of the best players during the clay court season.
This after Draper himself had doubted his clay court ability but obviously afterwards he was left a bit crestfallen by the tie. He said that Alcaraz was better in every facet and it showed.
Not exactly the way he wanted to end an incredible clay court season as he heads into Roland Garros. But one he will likely look back on with positivity in the goodness of time.
"I think Carlos was better tactically than me, he was better than me emotionally. I sit here very frustrated with my match today. The way I could've tactically changed up a few things better," said Draper to Sky Sports.
"I think emotionally I was too negative. So I think a lot of that is the amount of tennis I've played but top players they bring that out of you. So I think Carlos overall was the better player today and deserved the win."
"I still think there's some things where against a top clay-court player like today, certain things can get exposed. My return, for instance, you have to have a little bit more height on the clay. I don't think I did a great job of that today.
"And especially in the matches I've lost so far, they've been able to find my backhand a little bit. I've got to keep working on being more physical and understanding how to be more effective in terms of getting it to their backhand. It's a bit more of a chess game on clay and I'm still learning."
"I think Carlos was the better player overall today and deserved to win" ️
