Bianca Andreescu makes dream double bagels start in French Open qualifying round
IPA

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has made a dream start in the qualifying round of the French Open. The second Grand Slam of the year is set to begin from May 27 where players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.

Andreescu, who is playing in the qualifying round of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2018, secured a thumping win against China’s Yao Xinxin in straight sets, without losing a match, with a score of 6-0, 6-0. The win will give Andreescu a lot of confidence, as she is still searching for her first title in the last six years.

Her last title in women’s tennis was the US Open back in 2019 when she defeated the former world number one Serena Williams in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Since then, Andreescu has struggled with form and fitness and recently returned to the court after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. When she returned to the court, the former world number four, who is now ranked 102 in the world, stated that she is giving herself a final opportunity to win something or else, she might even consider retirement.

"This is in a way maybe my last chance. I don't want to waste any time," she said while talking to the media in Rome. "I'm really not messing around anymore. I've never been as committed to my craft as I am now. Sometimes us humans need to go through the lowest of the low to really change, and I think going through that surgery and another six months off the tour really led to that.”

Andreescu’s journey in the recently concluded Rome Open was a good one where her journey finally concluded in the fourth-round when she lost to China’s Zheng Qinwen in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
