Can Taylor Fritz Have A Blockbuster US Open 2025?

Taylor Fritz had endured a horrid season in 2025 up until the French Open where the American – admittedly not at his best on the clay, crashed out in the first round. But his fortunes changed as soon as the grass court season started. With titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne leading up to Wimbledon, the American had surely turned his season around.

Wimbledon 2025

After winning two tournaments on the grass before entering Wimbledon, Fritz who was seeded fifth had a breakthrough Wimbledon 2025. The American had to come back from two sets to down in his first round match but ultimately stretching Carlos Alcaraz over the course of four very competitive sets in the semifinals before ultimately falling to a 4-6 7-5 3-6 6-7 defeat. It was a career-best Wimbledon showing and the second-deepest run of his Grand Slam career, behind only his runner-up finish at the 2024 US Open.

US Open Lead-Up

Fritz defends 1200 points in the next two weeks. He is seeded fourth this year and while he does enter this tournament as an outside contender, it will be worthwhile to see how he has fared leading up to the US Open.

It is fair to say, Fritz would have liked better showings than his quarterfinal appearance at Washington, semifinal appearance at the Toronto Masters and a Round of 16 result at Cincinnati. He did look impressive though in his run at the Toronto Masters and will look to build upon the recent form he has shown post French Open.

US Open 2025 Chances

The draw has been kind to Fritz, offering him a clear path through the early rounds. A projected quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic looms, however, and therein lies the real test. Djokovic holds a commanding 10-0 record in their head-to-head, but Fritz arrives in New York brimming with confidence, while questions linger around the Serb’s form. If ever there was a moment to turn the tide, this is it.

Should he pass that hurdle, a potential semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz would be an even greater challenge—by then, Alcaraz would surely be playing at his peak.

Given the trajectory of his season, anything short of a quarterfinal berth would feel like a disappointment. But with the form he has found since the French Open, Fritz enters the US Open with a genuine outside chance with the belief to shake up the draw.
