Six-time Major champion Carlos Alcaraz has officially secured the 2025 year-end No. 1 ranking after going undefeated in his round-robin group at the Nitto ATP Finals. The Spaniard sealed the achievement with a victory over Lorenzo Musetti, capping off a perfect 3-0 run in Turin.
The 22-year-old, who also finished 2022 as the world’s top-ranked player, spent the season battling Jannik Sinner for the No. 1 position. But with three wins at the Finals, Alcaraz has mathematically clinched the top spot to close out another remarkable year.
The 2025 season has easily been the most successful of Alcaraz’s young career — his first year reaching 70 match wins. After a rocky start to the year, he caught fire during a sensational stretch from Monte Carlo to Tokyo, capturing seven titles and setting new personal milestones across multiple surfaces.
The highlight of that stretch was the historic French Open final against Jannik Sinner, where he famously saved three championship points to come back from two sets down and win a mammoth encounter lasting over five hours.
Then, later in the season in New York, Alcaraz won his second US Open title, dropping only one set throughout the tournament, a run that included defeating Novak Djokovic and Sinner back-to-back to clinch the title. In total, Alcaraz has already notched 70 victories and eight titles in 2025, with the potential to improve both figures in Turin and later this month at the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.
When Alcaraz arrived in Turin, he made his goals clear: to secure the year-end No. 1 and to win the ATP Finals. With the first objective achieved, his full focus now shifts to the second.
Although he hasn’t displayed his absolute best level this week so far, the Spaniard still stands unbeaten in his group. If he can elevate his game in the knockout rounds, where Alexander Zverev or Felix Auger-Aliassime will be waiting for him in the semifinals, fans could well be treated to another SinCaraz showdown to close out the 2025 ATP season in fitting style.
