Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have shown that they do not always agree on everything.
Sinner got the better of Alcaraz in the ATP Finals, where the Spaniard was clearly hampered by a foot injury.
Even though they are widely considered the two standout players in men’s tennis right now, there does seem to be genuine respect between them.
But one area where they do not see eye to eye is when it comes to picking between Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev for the best serve.
Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton are two of the biggest servers on the ATP Tour, especially among those who took part in this year’s ATP Finals.
Before the tournament began, five players in the field were asked to build their ideal player using only those competing in Turin.
The first category was best server, with Sinner giving his nod to Shelton.
Alcaraz followed, but went in a different direction by choosing world number three Zverev instead.
Sinner was not alone in picking Shelton. Taylor Fritz also went with the American, who showedconfidence by backing himself as well.
The only player to side with Alcaraz was Alex de Minaur, who also picked Zverev as his choice for best server among the group.
Zverev and Shelton were recognised for their serving ability ahead of play, but neither made much impact at this year’s ATP Finals. Both players finished without a win from their three round-robin matches.
Alcaraz and Sinner still had numerous attributes to assign, including those they chose for themselves and for each other.
Both agreed that Alcaraz had the standout forehand among the ATP Finals field. The Spaniard, in turn, pointed to Sinner’s backhand as his top choice, something he has praised before.
The Italian star eventually selected himself as the best player under pressure after running out of other options, having consistently avoided choosing himself earlier on.
That quality was evident throughout the tournament, especially in the final against Alcaraz.
Sinner has not reached number one yet, but he has a clear path back to the top spot if he continues his current form into next season.
