Coco Gauff ends Lois Boisson’s sensational run – Now It’s Sabalenka for the Roland Garros crown
Sipa Press

Coco Gauff secured a resounding victory over local favorite Lois Boisson, advancing to her second career Roland Garros final. The American controlled the match from start to finish, undeterred by the home crowd, closing out a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win in just one hour and 10 minutes.

In the final, she will face none other than world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who comes off an epic battle triumph over Iga Swiatek. The two best players of the clay-court swing will meet again in a Grand Slam final, following Gauff's title win at the 2023 US Open.

First Set

There was high anticipation for what the surprising Boisson, who had eliminated Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva, might do, showcasing remarkable play, especially from her forehand. However, this time the Frenchwoman started disconnected, and Gauff quickly secured a couple of consecutive breaks, coupled with strong service games that put her up 4-0. Boisson had a couple of break opportunities but couldn't convert them before holding her first service game to make the score 1-4.

Nevertheless, it didn't help much, as Gauff remained solid on her serve and then secured her second consecutive break, taking the set 6-1. The American capitalized on her opponent's 15 unforced errors; Boisson only managed 4 winners, and her limited experience in such high-stakes matches was evident.

Second Set

While the first set was completely one-sided for Gauff, a reaction from Boisson seemed possible in the second. After both defended their service games to love, the Frenchwoman got the first break opportunity of the set but couldn't convert it. Gauff quickly responded by breaking her opponent on her first opportunity and surged ahead 3-1.

They entered an inconsistent period of the set where both struggled on serve, but Gauff was more efficient when it mattered. Boisson secured a break that brought her to 2-3, but then she virtually couldn't win points, and Gauff closed out the final part easily, winning 12 of the last 13 points consecutively to seal a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory.

In the final, she will face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who just overcame Iga Swiatek in an epic battle. Their head-to-head currently stands at 5-5, and their last encounter was in the Madrid Open final a month ago, with the Belarusian winning in straight sets.
