Coco Gauff Makes History Amid French Open

It sure looks like Coco Gauff is establishing herself as one of the biggest clay-court threats in women's tennis.

On Thursday, Gauff took down Lois Boisson to secure her ticket to the French Open final. The American star made easy work of her French foe, beating Boisson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, and never allowing her to take the lead.

The World No. 2 needed just an hour and nine minutes to handle Boisson, who was playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal.

Now, by securing a ticket to the Roland-Garros final, Gauff made history as the youngest player ever to reach the finals of the Madrid Open, Italian Open and French Open in the same year, according to the WTA. Gauff just turned 21 last March.

"Clay? Consider it a forte," the WTA wrote, along with a graphic showing Gauff's achievement.

It is interesting to note that Coco Gauff failed to win the titles at the Madrid Open and Italian Open despite reaching the finals in both those events, so she'll certainly be hoping for a different result this time.

Gauff will be facing World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final, marking the first time since 2013 that the top two players in women's tennis will play at the French Open final. The last to do it were Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

The two tennis stars are tied in head-to-head matches with five wins each. They are 1-1 in Grand Slam meetings — with Gauff beating Sabalenka for the 2023 US Open title, and the Belarusian star winning their semifinal match at the 2024 Australian Open.
