Tennis superstar Coco Gauff suffered a frustrating loss in the Australian Open and her reaction to the defeat was both intense and televised. As you might imagine, Gauff didn't appreciate her emotions being caught on camera.
Following Gauff's loss to Elina Svitolina in Tuesday morning's quarterfinals, Gauff smashed her racket into the ground while inside the Melbourne Park building. She did not seem to realize that cameras were still on her and the video went viral.

Speaking to reporters after her loss, Gauff admitted that she was a bit disappointed in her emotional response being broadcast in the way that it was. She said that she specifically tried to go somewhere without cameras in order to avoid having a camera-captured moment like that.
“I tried to go somewhere where there was no cameras. I have a thing with the broadcast, I feel like certain moments — the same thing happened to Aryna after I played her in the final of the U.S. Open — I feel like they don’t need to broadcast,” Gauff said. “I tried to go somewhere where I thought there wasn’t a camera because I don’t necessarily like breaking rackets.”
But on that same note, Gauff didn't necessarily regret smashing her racket in the first place. She admitted that she needed some time and space to vent.
"I don’t want to lash out on my team. They’re good people, they don’t deserve that. And I know I’m emotional, so I just took the minute to go and do that,” she said. “I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I don’t try to do it out on the court and in front of kids. I do know I need to let out that emotion. Otherwise, I’m just going to be snappy with the people around me and I don’t want to do that, because like I said, they don’t deserve it.
“They did their best. I did mine. Just need to let the frustration out.”
Fair enough.
