Famous tennis coach Brad Gilbert has praised America’s Coco Gauff after her incredible win in the semifinal of the Madrid Open. The WTA 1000 event is moving closer to its conclusion where the finalists have been already confirmed.
One of them will be world number four America’s Gauff who secured a thumping win over the defending champion and reigning world number two Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Famous tennis coach Gilbert, who worked with Gauff in the past, in a post on the social media platform X—previously known as Twitter — praised the one-time Grand Slam winner for her impressive outing against one of the best players in the world. “Mighty impressive effort from Coco, absolutely hammers Iga Pop for her 1st win on clay and 3rd straight win overall,” he wrote.
Talking after the match, Gauff stated that she was happy with her performance and believed that her mentality played a big role in her win. “I think the mentality that I had the whole match,” she said as quoted by WTA’s official website. “I was aggressive and played with margin. Maybe it wasn’t her best level. For me, it was just making sure my level stayed the same. In the second, I raised it.”
On the other hand, her opponent Swiatek was clearly distraught with her performance and had no answers to where it went all wrong. “Honestly, there’s nothing like to walk through because it was all pretty much the same from the beginning to the end,” she said. “I couldn’t really get my level up. Coco played good, but, yeah, I think it’s on me that I didn’t really move well, I wasn’t ready to play back the shots with heaviness. With that kind of game, it was pretty bad. I think I pushed kind of with my head for more than I even should, tennis-wise. Today for sure everything kind of collapsed, both tennis-wise and I feel like I wasn’t even in the right place with my feet before the shots. I wish I would have moved better, because I think that would get me any opportunity to bounce back, because this is usually what happens.”

Bianca Andreescu shares significant update after suffering horrific ankle injury at 2025 Canadian Open
Despite suffering a scary fall during her opening round match at the 2025 Canadian Open, home favorite Bianca Andreescu was able to escape with the victory. However, the former US Open champion was forced to withdraw from her second round match a few days later. During her first round match against two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova, Andreescu sustained an ankle injury as she was serving for the match at 5-4. The former World No.4 soldiered on and was able to finish the match with a 6-3 6-4 victory, although she was in visible discomfort. There was much speculation on whether Andreescu would be able to compete in her second round match against fourth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva. The Canadian put those concerns to rest as she announced her withdrawal hours before the match, giving Andreeva a free berth to the third round. "Hey guys, sadly I won't be able to play the rest of the tournament," read a statement by Andreescu on the Canadian Open's social media page. "I did everything I could to get ready but now, it's back to the drawing board." Will Andreescu be out of action for long? Fans of the Mississauga native did not have long to wait before finding out the severity of Andreescu's ankle injury. The 25-year old took to social media to announce she was hoping to play at the upcoming Cincinnati Open, the final WTA 1000 event before the US Open. "I'm hoping to be ready for Cincinnati," wrote Andreescu on social media. "So, thank you again for all the support the other night. It was incredible and I'm so, so grateful for you guys and I'm hoping that you can continue to support me." The main draw of the Cincinnati Open kicks off on August 7, giving Andreescu a week to recover from the injury sustained in Montreal. Currently rediscovering her form after battling several injuries, Andreescu burst into the limelight in 2019, where she won titles at Indian Wells, the Canadian Open and defeated WTA legend Serena Williams to win her only Grand Slam title at the US Open.

Cowboys make decision on Micah Parsons' trade request
First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer has been trying to instill civility at practice when tempers flare, but he has no choice but to stay idle as the Dallas Cowboys front office and Micah Parsons face off at training camp. On Friday, Parsons took to social media to announce he sent executive vice president Stephen Jones a request to be traded from the Cowboys. "Unfortunately I no longer want to be here," Parsons wrote, per a post on X. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. "I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." Dallas didn't appear fazed by Parsons' request. Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Cowboys have no plans to trade Parsons this summer, though multiple teams will plan to inquire about the three-time All-Pro pass-rusher. "The Dallas Cowboys have no intention of trading Micah Parsons, per sources," Russini posted on X. "Still, teams around the league are planning to reach out to check on his availability today." The Cowboys selected Parsons with the No. 12 pick in the 2021 draft. The four-time Pro Bowl nominee has recorded 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks during his four years in the league. The former Penn State standout has appeared and started in 63 games. Parsons missed four games last year due to an ankle injury. The Cowboys front office could have made the situation better by talking with Parsons' agent and keeping any issues with the star pass-rusher in-house. The Cowboys have another preseason distraction. This one is of their own making.
Report: Knicks made a signing based on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade belief
The New York Knicks aren't waiting for the offseason drama surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks to end before taking care of a key signing for their roster this summer. Per Shams Charania of ESPN, the Knicks signed Mikal Bridges to a four-year deal worth $150M on Thursday. "New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the franchise, agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN," Charania posted on X. "The new deal includes a player option for 2029-30 and a trade kicker." Bridges' extension might not have happened if the Knicks believed they had a serious shot to land an elite player in a trade this summer. Per Ashish Mathur of Hoops Wire, the Knicks made their decision to sign Bridges to a new deal after they learned Antetokounmpo plans to stay in Milwaukee. "The New York Knicks got intel that Giannis Antetokounmpo won’t request a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks before signing Mikal Bridges to an extension, an NBA source told Hoops Wire on Thursday," Mathur wrote. "...The Knicks would have pursued Giannis Antetokounmpo had the two-time MVP requested a trade from the Bucks. All signs point toward Antetokounmpo remaining in Milwaukee." Due to the player option Bridges has in his new deal, the guard cannot be traded for at least six months. Mathur's report signals the reality that New York wants to land another star to pair with Jalen Brunson. However, the Knicks might not make a big splash until the trade deadline next year. The Knicks need a big man who can score and play defense at a high level in the playoffs, something Karl-Anthony Towns was unable to do in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Lakers reportedly monitoring two-time All-Star's availability
The Los Angeles Lakers finished last season with a dud after propelling to the third seed of the Western Conference, losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs. The one thing that the Wolves exposed was the Lakers' lack of an inside presence. The center spot was weak once they traded Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic midway through the season, but they found a way to manage despite putrid numbers coming from the center position. The Lakers were bottom five in both rebounds and points per game for centers during the regular season after the All-Star break. However, in the postseason, the numbers got worse. They tried to use their original starting center, Jaxson Hayes, to man the paint, but he only played 7.8 minutes per game while only scoring 1.8 points and grabbing two rebounds per contest. This team knows it needs extreme levels of help for the center spot, which is why it is reportedly looking at a former All-Star center's situation. Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints reported that the Lakers are closely monitoring the situation between Nikola Vucevic and the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have shipped out several key players over the last year, with Vucevic being the lone former All-Star still on the roster. As his trade market winds down, some have speculated that a potential buyout is on the horizon. However, Chicago Bulls insider K.C. Johnson reported on "The Fastbreak" podcast that the Bulls have no intentions of a buyout and would like to move him for assets at the trade deadline. Vucevic would be a massive upgrade alongside Deandre Ayton, whom the Lakers signed earlier in the offseason. Vucevic put up very impressive numbers last season, averaging 18.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53% from the field in 73 games. His career numbers are just as impressive, and he's a former two-time All-Star as well. The Lakers should continue to monitor Vucevic and assess the Bulls' ultimate plan for him. With Ayton already in the fold, a trade for Vucevic could put them at the top of the Western Conference.
