Confusion as De Minaur appears to pull out of s'Hertogenbosch despite tournament releasing quotes
Sipa Press

A curious mix-up occurred on the social media of the Libema Open 's-Hertogenbosch – set to take place starting next week – after they announced the return of Alex de Minaur in a recent post on their X account, despite the Australian being reported to skip the tournament.

The world No. 9 initially expected to start his grass-court swing at the Libema Open but decided to skip the tournament, a decision that had been announced a day earlier. The Australian had a disappointing exit from the French Open, falling in the second round to Alexander Bublik in an epic comeback.

De Minaur had comfortably won the first two sets 6-2, 6-2, and maintained parity in the third set at 6-4, 6-4. However, the Kazakh delivered a remarkable performance to recover, getting the break at the right moment and then taking control of the match, closing out the victory 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Bublik then went on to reach the quarterfinals – his first appearance at that stage of a Grand Slam – though he fell decisively to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

The Libema Open's social media seemingly wasn't updated on the changes to the tournament's draw. They made a post discussing De Minaur's return to the grass courts, but apparently were unaware that the Australian had already withdrawn from the tournament.

"Alex de Minaur enjoys the challenge of switching from clay to grass, especially mastering the movement on the faster surface," they posted. "He’s known for performing well in the Netherlands and is eager to deliver strong matches for the Dutch fans again this year."

De Minaur's withdrawal allowed his compatriot Rinji Hijikata (No. 78) to gain direct entry into the tournament, which starts on Monday, June 9. The world No. 9 is now scheduled to make his return to the courts at the ATP 500 Queen's Club Championships, where he will be the 5th seed in a draw led by the 2023 champion Carlos Alcaraz and defending champion Jack Draper, featuring a total of 7 top-10 players.
