Danielle Collins has been in formidable form this clay-court season, and her stunning straight-sets victory over former WTA No. 1 Iga Swiatek at the Italian Open, was one of the standout results of the tournament. However, while the tennis world buzzed with analysis and reactions, Collins admits she felt her performance didn’t get the recognition it deserved.
“Yeah, I thought I played really well against you know Iga, I didn't get a ton of credit for it,” said Collins in an exclusive interview with Tennis Channel. “Like after the match of course, you know, its just more about how poorly you know she (Iga) played and everything.”
“But that can make it difficult to be able to celebrate your win sometimes, when you feel like you have a good match, or you're playing well and it's just like, whatever,” said Collins with a wry smile. “So yeah, I was happy about it, but yeah, dealing with that wasn't, it wasn't as fun as I imagined.”

Collins shared that she has been putting significant effort into refining her game off the court, and that she’s relieved to see it pay off during high intensity matches.
“I mean, I’ve been really working on getting my shots, dialed in, and putting a lot of you know intention into what I’m doing on the practice courts, and trying to improve little areas of my game and become more consistent, and when you have days like that, it can be really encouraging,” said Collins.
Collins, who had almost decided to hang up her boots at the end of the previous year, has now had two wins over Swiatek and is currently competing at the Strasbourg Open, before she heads to Paris for Roland Garros.
