Daniil Medvedev identifies aspects to 'change for Indian Wells and Miami' after a shocking loss against Ugo Humbert as he fails to defend his title in Dubai

Another major upset at the Dubai Tennis Championships as defending champion Daniil Medvedev lost to a resilient Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals. After a great tournament, the Russian was unable to defend his title.

Despite a solid start, the defending champion was broken by the Frenchman, who took the first set after a tight battle. The second set was even better for the 25-year-old Humbert, who broke the Russian early on. However, Medvedev did break right back, but after that, there was not much progress from the defending champion.

With a taped shoulder and shaky serves, Medvedev failed to defend his title against Humbert. The final score was 7-5, 6-3, and with this, the No.5 seed took the last spot in the finals, for a shot at the title. After the Australian Open, this was only the second tournament for Medvedev this year, who was rather happy with his semi-final run.

I'm happy with the fact that I was able to reach the SF. I was injured before Dubai and my serve was not 100% in this tournament. I'm disappointed that I didn't have the right energy tonight, and that's something I need to change for Indian Wells and Miami.  Medvedev during the post-match interview

Admitting to not having the right energy, the Russian aims at the Sunshine Double for a better performance after changing his energy a little bit. Fans hoped that the dangerous Medvedev serve would return before the Masters, as the Russian seemed close to a title win, after back-to-back good runs.
