Diana Shnaider's double bagel without help of Dinara Safina as coaching split confirmed after just one month
Abaca Press

Diana Shnaider was excellent on Thursday morning and given her recent partnership with Dinara Safina it was perhaps easy to pin that on the ex-World No.1 but their coaching partnership has ended after a month, it has been confirmed.

Shnaider skittled past Caroline Dolehide 6-0, 6-0 this morning in very little time but while not elaborating much, the World No.13 said she has returned to Spain. Safina joined her brother Marat Safin who is coaching Andrey Rublev by moving into coaching.

While she has been asked before to coach players, she finally made that move with Shnaider being coached by her father. This did not massively work though with Shnaider's form falling off a cliff between the end of 2024 and mid 2025.

But Shnaider started to look up as she reached the fourth round of Madrid and started to win again. That is now over as she looks seemingly for a new mentor.

“She returned back home to Barcelona. She needed that,” said to Tennis.com's David Kane.

“The experience, of course, was great. She’s a former world No. 1, so she gave me a lot of those tips on how to stay focused in a match and not to let those negative emotions ruin your game and mental skills. For sure, those are things I learned and I’ll try to use them as much as I can so I can get better each day.”

“Caroline is such a tricky opponent I really tried to stay focused through the whole match because you never know,” Shnaider continued on her win. “Maybe the opponent isn’t feeling well in the beginning of the match, and then she starts feeling more comfortable. Maybe she sees the score and thinks, ‘Ok, whatever, I’m losing,’ and she goes for the shots even more.

“So, I tried not to think about the score because for me, the goal was just to win a match. The score doesn’t matter. I just tried to play a good game and win the match.”
