Diana Shnaider's Wimbledon wardrobe woes: Dress code forces headscarf change

Diana Shnaider was forced to make a wardrobe change due to Wimbledon's dress code. The world No. 15 is known on Tour for usually wearing a headscarf, something she didn't do this time in her SW19 debut.

The Russian tennis player debuted with a victory over world No. 72 Moyuka Uchijima, winning 7-6(5), 6-3, in a strong performance. However, something beyond her good tennis caught attention: her appearance without her usual headscarf. The explanation? Wimbledon's dress code.

It's well-known that the All England Club requires all players to wear entirely white on court, with minor exceptions for details on some garments. However, Shnaider didn't have a completely white bandana, so – just like in 2024 – she went without her usual hair accessory.

The 21-year-old explained later that she didn't have time to prepare a bandana for the occasion. "To be honest, it's not enough time for us to figure out a lot of things and to choose a fabric and make the fit and everything. I need to be the one who is doing that. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough time to manage that."

"I like Wimbledon just because it's like one and only. It's different. For sure, it's like a different atmosphere here, compared to other Grand Slams,” the former world No. 11 added. "So for me, all of the white kits, I love, I feel like white looks great on every player. When you look at the players playing matches, you're just enjoying the way they look, just this green grass and players playing in the white kits, I feel like it's just a very cool atmosphere."

Shnaider awaits her second-round match against France's Diane Parry, as she continues her quest to reach a spot in the top-10.
