Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will compete in the 2024 Argentina Open next, which is an ATP 250 event. In the press conference today, he gave some really interesting bites about his current rivals, goals for the 2024 season and his ambitions as a tennis player.

In the process, he snubbed Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who beat him in the semifinal of the 2023 US Open, while talking about his top rivals presently.

I think Djokovic and Sinner are the rivals to beat. There is no doubt, both for me and for everyone. Zverev also has the winning H2H against me. He is a rival that I have very much in mind, but I do think that Djokovic and Sinner are at the top right now. Alcaraz via Argentina Open Presser

Carlos Alcaraz has won two Grand Slam titles so far in his career. He won the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023 by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. Up until last year, the Spaniard was considered to be the best out of the next-gen players. However, after Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open last month, the Italian has also become an automatic part of the competition. Thus, the future rivalry between these two players to attain supremacy in the tennis world will be sensational.

Talking about Alcaraz’s rivalry with Novak Djokovic, the two had a great to-and-fro competition for the year-end World No. 1 ATP ranking last year, which was ultimately won by the Serb. Alcaraz had the lead for quite a few days after winning the Wimbledon but the Serb dethroned him after winning the US Open. The youngster suffered a noticeable dip in his form after that and was thus unable to take advantage of Nole’s absence from the Asian swing.

Carlos Alcaraz is focused on winning the Olympic gold this season

Alcaraz said that he would prefer winning an Olympic gold to a major this year. The Spaniard said that it is one of the highest honors in any sport and bringing that medal to his country will be a matter of great pride.

I would say the Olympic title. For me it is a dream to bring a medal to my country, to Spain, and winning gold is one of the greatest things that can happen to you in the world of sport in general. This year, if you gave me a choice, I would say that I will keep the Olympic gold... although I would like to win both, I'm not going to lie to you either

The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris, France, from 26 July to 11 August this year. Just like Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic has also said that he would like to win an Olympic gold this season. Thus, the competition will be intense this year.
