Draw ATP Stuttgart Open 2025: Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz lead the field as grass season begins

The draw has been determined for the 2025 Stuttgart Open, which will play its 47th edition from June 9-15, 2025, and will mark the start of the first week of the grass-court swing in the run-up to Wimbledon. The ATP 250 tournament will feature big stars, led by world No. 3 Alexander Zverev and the American No. 1 Taylor Fritz.

Defending champion Jack Draper and 2024 finalist Matteo Berrettini (who withdrew due to injury a day ago) will be absent this time, but there will still be several big names, including Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Denis Shapovalov among the top contenders for the title. Below, we review the draw with the main seeded players.

Zverev and Fritz top the draw

Alexander Zverev will be the first seed, looking to bounce back quickly from his quarterfinal defeat at Roland Garros. The German had had a good season but ended up losing to Novak Djokovic, which cost him several points in the ranking, after not defending the title he won in 2024. The German is the first seed and will have a bye in the first round, where he will face the winner between Fabio Fognini (WC) and Corentin Moutet.

The bottom half of the draw will be for Taylor Fritz, who had a weak clay-court swing, far from the major headlines, and will try to find his level again on grass. Fritz is another player who fell in the rankings last week and who has only one win in his last two weeks.

First round matches to follow

World No. 30 Denis Shapovalov has found a consistency he hadn't shown in years, and although he didn't achieve great results on the clay-court swing, the grass courts are undoubtedly comfortable for the former Wimbledon semifinalist. He will face Arthur Rinderknech (No. 81) in the first round and could have a potential second-round match against a qualifier. It will be a good opportunity for Shapo to show if he can continue taking steps forward at a time of year that always suits him.

The 7th seed Alex Michelsen will face veteran talent Gaël Monfils, a generational clash that is sure to produce entertaining points between an increasingly rising 20-year-old and the 38-year-old Frenchman, one of the tour's showmen.
