The Rabat Open will take place between May 19-24, 2025 and forms part of the WTA 250 calendar with the draw now confirmed. Peyton Stearns is defending champion but she won't defend her title.
Stearns no doubt was buoyed with her reasoning by a superb few weeks in Madrid and Rome losing in the semi-finals of Rome to eventual champion Jasmine Paolini. She posted tweets soon after joking about her bones being broken using SpongeBob gifs.
The American won the title last year famously executing a handstand in her trophy ceremony. But this year, it will be Elina Avanesyan who was top seed anyway who leads the way.
She faces Julia Grabher in the first round. Likely Ajla Tomljanovic or Viktoriya Tomova will be the opponent in the Quarter-Finals with a fairly open section on paper for the now Armenian.
Ann Li is next seed and faces Katie Volynets likely awaiting the in-form Hailey Baptiste. Varvara Gracheva or Maya Joint likely await in the next section.
Katerina Siniakova opens the next section with Jaqueline Cristian who had a good rome likely next. While the resurgent Anastasija Sevastova takes the next spot with a wildcard. She faces Moroccan wildcard Yasmine Kabbaj. Lucia Bronzetti too is third seed and faces Zeynep Sonmez.
Mayar Sherif reached the final last year and faces Arantxa Rus. While in the bottom section, it is perhaps the most difficult for second seed Camila Osorio. She faces Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The winner then faces Kamilla Rakhimova or Jil Teichmann.
This next week sees two tournaments on the WTA Calendar with Internationaux de Strasbourg also set to take place which features bigger names in action pre Roland Garros. But with winners like Stearns and Sakkari over the years, Rabat does produce some stories to watch out for.
