Emma Raducanu commits to Strasbourg: A smart step toward Roland Garros
IPA

Emma Raducanu has accepted a wildcard to compete in the 2025 Internationaux de Strasbourg, a WTA 500 event which will be held from May 18 to May 24 at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg. The tournament serves as a key clay-court warm up ahead of the French Open and will be featuring other tennis stars such as former Wimbledon Champion, Elena Rybakina.

Following a challenging 6-1, 6-2 defeat against Coco Gauff at the Rome Open in the round of 16, Raducanu expressed her determination to continue competing than retreating after setbacks.

With the second major of the season in the very near future, Raducanu's decision to participate in Strasbourg is particularly strategic, as it will be taking place at the very same time as Roland Garros' qualifying rounds. Playing in France suggest that the former US Open champion is seeking additional match play besides collecting some ranking points, enhancing her readiness for the Slam.

The Internationaux de Strasbourg boasts a competitive field, including top players like Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina and Paula Badosa.

With this move, Emma aims to continue refining her clay-court game and gaining momentum, although she hasn't done it bad at all through this European swing, falling against players who adapt better to this surface.

This move reflects Raducanu's broader strategy of embracing challenges and seeking growth opportunities on the tour. By choosing to compete in Strasbourg, she demonstrates resilience and a proactive approach to her development, aiming to build confidence and form as she continues this 'comeback season' after a long period dealing with injuries.
