Boris Becker has named one match in the list of the top five finals of the Grand Slams. The 57-year-old has remained highly active on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. He often responds to users by reposting their posts with comments.
A social media freelancer with a handle of Bastien Fachan @BastienFachan posted on X a list of five best-ever finals of a Grand Slam after watching an epic encounter at the French Open on Sunday where Carlos Alcaraz came out on top in a five-set thriller with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
“So, I’ve given it some thought…
My top 5 Grand Slam men’s finals of all time:
1/ Nadal-Federer, Wimbledon 2008
2/ Borg-McEnroe, Wimbledon 1980
3/ Djokovic-Nadal, Australian Open 2012
4/ Federer-Roddick, Wimbledon 2009
5/ Alcaraz-Sinner, Roland-Garros 2025
Yesterday was top 5,” he wrote.
Becker, while agreeing with four out of those five matches on the list, reshared the post and gave his own preference as the fifth-best final in Grand Slam history. Becker stated that the 2009 Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick should not have been on the list. In that contest, Federer came out on top in five sets with a score of 5–7, 7–6 (8–6), 7–6 (7–5), 3–6, 16–14. Becker said that the match lacked ‘good rallies’ and also suggested that the 2017 final of the Australian Open between Federer and Rafael Nadal should have been on that list.
“Don’t agree with Wimbledon finale 2009 between Federer v Roddick,” he wrote. “I did the commentary for the BBC, it was very long but few good rallies…I would include Melbourne 2017 between Roger& Rafa, scintillating tennis 5 sets and proper comeback!”
In that final, Federer defeated Nadal in five sets with a score of 6–4, 3–6, 6–1, 3–6, 6–3. It was his 18th Grand Slam title and his first in nearly five years. Federer went on to win just two more Grand Slams after that match and finished his career with 20 Grand Slam titles.
Don’t agree with Wimbledon finale 2012 between Federer v Roddick !
