Roger Federer dominated the landscape of tennis for over two decades, winning 20 Grand Slams and spending 310 weeks at the top of the ATP Tour.
The Swiss superstar is widely considered one of the greatest players to ever play the game, alongside his rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
Federer won 103 ATP Tour titles in his career, which is the second most in the Open Era behind Jimmy Connors.
Despite all of his immense accolades in the sport, BBC Radio 1 host Jamie Laing believes he took a game off the star.
Jamie Laing does not have any true tennis experience, but he has revealed that he has so much confidence in his ability that he believes he could take a game off one of the best players ever.
Speaking to the Big Issue, he said: “I’ve always had this weird blind confidence when it comes to sport. I think if I played Roger Federer in a tennis match, I’d probably win a game off him. That’s generally how I think.”
Laing famously ran five ultramarathons in a row to raise money for Sport Relief, and he said that he did very little training in the run up to the monumental task.
The former Made in Chelsea star said he used that same ‘blind confidence’ in order to complete the challenge.
“So when it came to the run, I had that same attitude. I’ve done cross country, I could run when I was a kid, so I can definitely do it.
“That blind confidence was incredibly useful. But it was also extremely naive, because the pain was unbearable. But I learned pain is temporary and resilience is everything.”
While no other celebrity has claimed they could take a game off Federer, the British public have previously expressed a similar vein of confidence when it comes to tennis.
A 2017 YouGov poll asked Brits whether they think they could take a point off Serena Williams, and the results were astounding.
12% of men said they could take a point off the 23-time Grand Slam champion, while 3% of women said they could do the same.
14% of men and 10% of women were unsure whether they could complete the mammoth task of taking a point off Williams.
It appears that Laing is not alone in his confidence of taking on one of the best players to ever grace a tennis court.
