Free-to-air victory: Alcaraz-Sinner Final delivers massive Italian TV numbers
Sipa Press

The final of the ATP Masters 1000 Rome 2025 between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and the Italian Jannik Sinner not only delivered a high-caliber sporting spectacle, with the victory of the Spaniard 7-6(5) and 6-1, but also stood out as a resounding television audience success.

The battle for the title at the Foro Italico brought together an average of 4,885,000 viewers in Italy alone, reaching an impressive 38% share of the audience.

In the current moment of the ATP Tour, probably the duel that fans most eagerly await are the clashes between Sinner and Alcaraz, the great rivalry of the last couple of years, with 7 Grand Slam titles combined, including the last 5 played since January 2024.

The matches between both players always produce tennis of the highest level, and they have taken the baton from the Big Three as the great protagonists of the Tour. They have already faced each other 11 times, with the Spaniard leading the head-to-head 7-4, having won the last 4 encounters, although never without difficulty.

The large television audience demonstrates the potential of tennis as a television product, especially in this type of duel between the best in the world. Unlike other occasions, the RAI 1 network opted for the free-to-air broadcast of the match, generating excitement among the local public.

This viewing success in Italy is not an isolated case. Throughout the season, major tournaments and matches involving charismatic figures often record notable audience peaks on the pay-per-view platforms that broadcast them. In fact, it surpassed the final of the Amici musical talent show, one of the most-watched events every year on Italian television.
