The French Open finals are set, with Jannik Sinner facing Carlos Alcaraz in the men's singles and Aryna Sabalenka taking on Coco Gauff in the women's singles.
In the men's singles, Sinner beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals to book his ticket to the finale of the clay Grand Slam. Even better, he maintained his immaculate record in this year's tournament, as he has yet to lose a set after taking down Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3).
Meanwhile, Alcaraz got a bit of a scare against Lorenzo Musetti, who took the first set in their semifinal showdown. However, the Spanish star was able to quickly recover and dominated the next three sets to win, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 6-2.
On the women's side, Sabalenka reached the finale by overcoming Iga Swiatek in the semis, 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0. Gauff, on the other hand, made easy work of wild-card entry Lois Boisson, 6-1, 6-2, finishing the match just an hour and nine minutes.
As a result, both the top two players in the men's and women's singles made it to the finals. According to the French Open, it's the first time in 41 years that the World No. 1 and No. 2 have both reached the singles finals at Roland-Garros.
The last time it happened was in 1984 when Ivan Lendl played John McEnroe in the men's singles final of the French Open, while Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert faced off in the women's singles.
"A historical weekend awaits," the Roland-Garros Instagram account wrote while highlighting the incredible situation.
It will definitely be interesting to see who will come out on top in the French Open finals.
Men's World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning French Open champion, but as mentioned, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has been flawless in the competition.
Meanwhile, women's World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka lost to World No. 2 Coco Gauff the last time they faced off in the final of a Grand Slam tournament (2023 US Open), but the Belarusian star did take down her American rival in their most recent meeting on clay court (at the Madrid Open final).
