Stefanos Tsitsipas ended his partnership with Goran Ivanisevic after the grass swing. Under the Croatian coach, Tsitsipas had played only two grass-court tournaments – the Halle Open and Wimbledon.
In Halle, his run was ended in the fourth round by Alex Michelsen, while at SW19, he suffered a first-round exit because of an injury. He handed the walkover to Frenchman Valentin Royer.
Ivanisevic then, in an interview, harshly criticized the Greek ace for his injury problems, calling him an unprepared player. Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, criticized Ivanisevic for publicly talking about those things about Tsitsipas. And now, the 53-year-old has clapped back at Naomi Osaka‘s former coach.
I’ll talk to him when I see him. You don’t do that. If he has a problem with me, he should call me, tell me what he thinks. I’ll tell him what I think. I’m not going to spread the word about what I think about him. It’s better for me not to say what I think about him.
Goran Ivanisevic told First and Red’s YouTube channel
According to Mouratoglou, Ivanisevic was “ashamed” of Tsitsipas’ result, and that he wanted to “separate” from the 26-year-old. Ivanisevic, during that aforementioned interview, said that coaches shouldn’t criticize each other.
So for now, I’m going to stay silent. Maybe I’ll do it next time. If I go to Toronto or Cincinnati, I’m more than excited to see Mouratoglou to talk to him and explain some things. I know why he did that, but I’ve never had problems with any coach in my life. Coaches should support each other and not go online to talk.

Following the split, Tsitsipas hired his father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, as his coach once again. It was right after the Canadian Open last year that Tsitsipas ended the professional relationship with Apostolos.
This is the second time that Ivanisevic left a player’s team. Earlier this year, he was working with Elena Rybakina (his first time working with a WTA player). But he was reportedly blindsided by her decision to re-hire banned coach Stefano Vukov. He ended the partnership with the 2022 Wimbledon champion right after her Australian Open exit.
The most successful partnership that Ivanisevic enjoyed was with Novak Djokovic. The Serbian ace lifted 12 of his 24 Grand Slam titles under his tutelage. Djokovic split with the 2001 Wimbledon champion in March last year and later in November added longtime rival Andy Murray to his team, but the collaboration lasted for no longer than six months.
The US Open has revamped its mixed doubles format this year, and when they released the names of the singles players pairing up for the event, as expected, Stefanos Tsitsipas joined forces with Paula Badosa. But reports have emerged that they have ended their romantic relationship after their Wimbledon exit.
When the US Open released the updated list of players, Badosa’s name was beside British No.1 Jack Draper instead of Tsitsipas, adding more fuel to the breakup rumors. Also, both Badosa and Tsitsipas have unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Draper and 2024 Paris Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng initially paired up for the mixed doubles. Zheng, however, withdrew from the US Open after she underwent elbow surgery. Badosa hasn’t yet played a tournament since her Wimbledon exit. She lost in the first round to Katie Boulter in three sets. The 27-year-old also hasn’t yet reached a final since winning the Citi Open last year.
Draper has reached three finals this year, winning only the Indian Wells Masters by beating Holger Rune . In the Qatar Open final, the 23-year-old lost to Andrey Rublev , while in the Madrid Open final, Casper Ruud denied him the title.
