'Hard courts are where she's most comfortable' - Former British player thinks Emma Raducanu will be a threat ahead of the US Open

After a splendid semifinal run at the DC Open, British tennis star Emma Raducanu has been touted as one of the players to watch out for in the lead up to the 2025 US Open by retired compatriot Anne Keothavong.

Following a solid performance during the grass court season, Raducanu has been impressive on the North American hard courts. The former World No.10 stormed through the field at last week's DC Open, defeating the likes of Marta Kostyuk, Naomi Osaka and Maria Sakkari en route to the semifinals.

Although Raducanu fell to eventual runner-up Anna Kalinskaya in the final four, the British star's improved form and fitness was on display for all to see. The 22-year old looked determined during her run in Washington, which was reflected in her aggressive yet controlled style of play.

Keothavong, who captain's the British Billie Jean King Cup team, is of the opinion that Raducanu is playing with confidence as she prepares for the US Open. Flushing Meadows has a special place in Raducanu's heart, as she completed a magical run in 2021 to win the singles title as a qualifier.

Raducanu loves the North American summer season, says Keothavong

"I thought she had a pretty good grass-court season and has carried that confidence into the start of the North American hard-court swing," said Koethavong. "Seeing her win matches in tough conditions, serving really well, showing really good composure out there. It's all positives and signs that she's moving in the right direction. She loves this part of the year!
"Hard courts are where she's most comfortable. She's had some fantastic wins over the likes of Maria Sakkari and also former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka as well. There are lots of positives despite the loss in the semi-finals. I thought she still played pretty well. She also made the semi-finals in the doubles so she's getting matches under her belt and this will all just be good preparation in the lead-up to the US Open."

With the US Open only a few weeks away, Raducanu continues her preparation for the final Grand Slam event of the season. The 22-year old is currently competing at the Canadian Open, where she defeated Elena Gabriela Ruse in the first round. Awaiting Raducanu in the second round is American Peyton Stearns.
