Jack Draper revealed his intention to personally support his friend Jannik Sinner following the world No. 1's defeat in the Roland Garros final, choosing to wait for an in-person moment. The 3-time Grand Slam champion had three match points against Carlos Alcaraz but couldn't convert them, ultimately falling for the fifth consecutive time in front of the Spaniard.
The Italian was close to Grand Slam glory once again, but Alcaraz frustrated his aspirations for the second consecutive major. In the tennis world, there's broad consensus that the 2025 French Open final earned its place in history as one of the best Grand Slam finals ever, lasting 5 hours and 29 minutes – the second longest in history behind the Djokovic-Nadal match in 2012 (5h, 53m).
It was a painful defeat for Sinner. Since his return to the courts after the doping ban, has amassed 11 wins and two losses, both in finals against Alcaraz. During his three-month suspension, one of the most vocal defenders of Sinner was Brit Jack Draper, currently world No. 6.
The Brit admitted he hadn't texted Sinner after the French Open final, as he preferred to see him in person to express his support. "It’s one of those where, as a player, you know that after a big final, you’re gonna have a lot of messages, and I think sometimes it could be a little bit, even though it’s really nice to get support," he said. "I think it’s nice to understand that they have to deal with messages, a lot of things going on."
"I’ll give him my support for sure when I see him," Draper added. "I’ll tell him how amazing he did, how proud I am, and how he’s going to win that title many more times I’m sure."
The 2025 Indian Wells champion highlighted the positive aspect of having been part of one of history's greatest matches. "I think that even though someone lost in that match, it was an incredible match, and something that’s gonna go down in history, and he’s gonna be part of that."
Both players return to the court this week for their first grass-court tournament, but in different events. Draper will be the 2nd seed at Queen's Club Championships, where he will debut against American Jenson Brooksby. On Sinner's side, he will face German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann, who achieved straightforward victories on his way against Nishioka and Jarry.
nie dm, nie wiadomości, tylko przekazanie swojego wsparcie w normalny, ludzki sposób jak się spotka z Jannikiem.
