Holger Rune achieves major career milestone in France as he signs up in the same league as Bjorn Borg and Mats Wilander

Young Dane Holger Rune breaks another milestone at the tender age of 20. Born in 2003, the youngster has been on the road to achieving greatness. Starting around the same time as Carlos Alcaraz , he is trying to gain a breakthrough at a major event. 

Despite this, Rune has won multiple ATP tournaments getting him to World No.7. He recently won his 100th ATP win excluding NextGen Finals wins. Having entered the Open Sud de France as the No.1 seed, Rune started his tournament when there were 16 people left in the draw. He was up against Spaniard Pablo Ruiz on his return to tennis after a disappointing exit at the Australian Open

Having not lost any form, Rune continued to showcase his amazing talent in the ATP 250. He won in straight sets 7-5,6-2 to make it to the last 8. With this win, he got a round figure of 100 ATP wins. 

“100 win, see you at 19:00” Tweeted the youngster after the winRune has now entered the same league as Bjorn Borg and Mats Wilander to become the fifth Scandinavian to get 100 ATP wins before the age of 21.

Holger Rune, the next big thing, started the year with a disappointing performance at the Australian Open. With coach changes, Rune resumes his 2024 journey in France. 

Luckily for the 20-year-old, he won his first match on return in great style to advance to the quarter-finals. With this win, he achieved a milestone of 100 ATP wins, getting his name etched in the history books. Rune became only the second Danish man after Kenneth Carlsen to achieve this feat. 

This win also got Rune in the top 4 of the players born after 2000 to get 100 ATP wins. Leading the table is Jannik Sinner (born in 2001) with 197 wins, followed by Felix Auger-Aliassime (born in 2000) with 186 wins. Just before Rune, is his friend Carlos Alcaraz, born 5 days after the Dane, has 159 wins.

Looking to win more, Rune aims at the ATP 250 tournament before the start of the much-awaited clay season. With a good record on clay, Rune has all eyes on him for the next couple of months till the French Open.
