Holger Rune is working his way back from the Achilles injury that brought his 2025 season to an early end.
The injury happened during a semifinal clash against Ugo Humbert at the Stockholm Open, where Rune damaged the upper part of his Achilles tendon.
He left the court visibly upset and soon after called time on his season, opting for surgery to address the issue.
Rune has kept fans in the loop throughout his rehab, posting regular updates on social media as he worked through his recovery programme.
Now four months on, he’s shared another update, offering a glimpse into how close he is to being match-fit again.
Rune posted a video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, showing himself working to build strength in his right leg.
The injury had affected his right leg, and he mentioned in the caption that he wants both legs to be equally strong before returning to full training.
“Testing leg strength. Goal is to have almost equal strength at both legs before starting to jump and run to avoid unhealthy competitions.
“Happy to be back at Aspetar to make sure I progress safely. #comebackloading.”
While there’s still no set date for Rune’s return to ATP Tour-level competition, signs point towards a later comeback this season.
Rune had worked his way back into the ATP top ten during the 2025 season, thanks to a couple of strong showings at major tournaments.
He reached the final at Indian Wells and secured his fifth career title by beating Carlos Alcaraz in the Barcelona Open decider.
Those performances lifted Rune up to eighth in the rankings, but following his Achilles injury, he has since dropped out of the top ten again.
He finished 2025 ranked 15th and fell another place to 16th after this year’s Australian Open wrapped up.
Rune skipped Melbourne Park this year, meaning he lost the 200 ranking points he had earned there a year earlier by reaching the fourth round.
