The 2025 Laver Cup is only a few weeks away, with fans eagerly awaiting the annual showdown that pits the best players from Europe against the rest of the world.
Founded in 2017 by Roger Federer, the Laver Cup sees top-ranked tennis players from various nations battle it out over a three-day period. This year's event is scheduled to take place in San Francisco, USA and will run from September 19-21.
The Laver Cup will see several talented players put aside any national differences, as players from Europe will band together under the banner of Team Europe. Likewise, players from around the globe will work represent Team World, as they battle it out in singles and doubles for brand supremacy.
Team Europe prevailed at last year's edition, scoring a 13-11 victory after three days of competition. The Europeans will hope to retain their title, and this year's team will be led by Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz will be joined by German tennis star Alexander Zverev, Former Paris Master champion Holger Rune and Norwegian ace Casper Ruud. Rising stars Jakub Mensik and Flavio Cobolli will also be representing Team Europe. Former French Open champion Yannick Noah replaced tennis great Bjorn Borg as Team Europe captain, with retired British star Tim Henman serving as the assistant captain.
Team World will be spearheaded by World No.4 Taylor Fritz. The American is joined by compatriots Frances Tiafoe, Reilly Opelka and Alex Michelsen. Brazilian wonderkid Joao Fonseca and Argentine Francisco Cerundolo round out the star-studded team. American tennis legend Andre Agassi was handed the captain's reigns for this year's edition, taking over from compatriot John McEnroe. Retired Australian tennis great Patrick Rafter will act as assistant captain.
Regarding the prize money allocation, participants from both teams will receive an appearance fee based on their ATP Singles ranking as of the Monday following Roland-Garros. However, each of the six players on the winning team also receives $250,000. There is no prize money awarded to members of the losing team, making the stakes that much higher for everyone involved.
