'I can’t win a single match,' Andy Murray is on his path to the Grand Slam ‘level’, despite initial upsets this season

Andy Murray is perhaps facing the worst chapter of his career right now. The British tennis player, who has three Grand Slam titles to his name and was once seen as the next big thing in tennis, is struggling to get wins, even in the initial rounds of small tournaments now.

Murray has had two major hip surgeries since 2018 and the recurring issue of injuries has plagued his career. However, the former World No. 1 has said in a recent interview that he has not given up on his dream to return to Grand Slam level yet.

The Brit lost to Tomas Machac in the very first round of the Marseille Open in straight sets. A few days ago, he also lost to Benoit Paire in the first round of the Montpellier Open, despite winning the first set. However, he is far from giving up and has said that he will continue to keep going until he reaches a level that he knows he can reach. Murray also said that although he is training hard, the training does not always translate into matches.

I'm not going to give up. I will continue to struggle to be at the level I know I can be. What happens in training does not always translate into a match. In 2016, when I finished No. 1 in the world, my coach told me that I had won two or three training sets throughout the year. This year, I won almost all of them and I can't win a single match. Andy Murray says that he might play in Challengers to uplift his form

Murray also said that the only thing that counts is playing in more and more tournaments and winning matches. In order to do so, he might have to play Challengers and the Brit is ready for that. He said that the easiest thing to do for him right now is to just give up and retire. However, he does not want to do so because of his love for the game.

You have to perform in competition, that's the only thing that counts. Maybe I will have to play in Challengers. The easiest thing for me would have been to leave my career. But I continue because I love the game, I love to train. At the moment, without a doubt, it is not easy to compete. But what is happening now does not affect my career.

Andy Murray is set to play in the Qatar Open and the Dubai Open next before heading on to the Indian Wells and the Miami Open. The Brit will wish to have positive results there.
