Emma Raducanu has been credited by former Britain’s number one Samantha Smith for continuing to play despite facing an odd incident in Dubai. The 22-year-old recently participated in the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships, where she was knocked out after losing in the second round to Karolina Muchova in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
During the contest, Raducanu faced an odd situation as she had to deal with a stalker. At one stage, she was forced to stand behind the chair umpire, leaving the court in tears. The person responsible for the odd situation was given a restraint order from the authorities in Dubai, and Raducanu dropped the charges.
This is not the first time the former world number 10 faced such a situation as she had to deal with another stalker back in 2022. Former Britain’s number one player Smith has spoken to Sky Sports where she praised Raducanu for continuing to compete despite facing an uneasy situation.
“I was horrified,” she said as quoted by Tennis 365. “Credit to Emma. You would never know what she had been through with the way she was playing and competing. I don’t know how she did that. Emma had the presence of mind to stop, talk to the umpire. It looked as if the tournament reacted very quickly, so did the WTA and the person was removed very quickly. They did everything they could possibly do to make sure Emma was as protected as possible, certainly in a physical sense, but psychologically it was difficult for her to continue and play the match. I’ve never experienced it myself but even for a minor incident in the crowd, for example if someone is unwell or there’s a disturbance, it can be hard. Tennis players are trained to switch on and off but I don’t think anyone is built psychologically to cope with what Emma had to cope with in Dubai, and having to get over that in future matches.”

The Cleveland Browns are a step closer to finding their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. The Browns had a four-way race for the QB1 job entering training camp. Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders were long-shot contenders for the gig. The real competition has been between Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. However, the race has dramatically changed following Pickett's hamstring injury. Per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, Flacco is now the "strong favorite" to win the starting job, as the veteran has taken advantage of his reps while Pickett remains limited at practice. "Pickett said he’s working '24-7' to get back to full speed but acknowledged he’s losing ground," Jackson wrote. "Joe Flacco’s two best throwing days have been the two most recent days, Friday and Saturday. Neither of the rookies ever had much of a realistic chance to win the starting job this August, and over the last week, Flacco has gone from presumed favorite to strong favorite. What always mattered most was finding the No. 1 — even if that status was going to be in flux at some point — and letting the folks in charge evaluate and decide on the rest of the depth chart and the room. There’s a lot of camp left, and there’s obviously a lot still to be settled with Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Sanders. Flacco's resurgence in 2023, when he won NFL Comeback Player of the Year, was the main reason the Browns made the playoffs that season. His familiarity with Cleveland and head coach Kevin Stefanski makes him the natural choice to start Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals, even if Pickett wasn't sidelined for team drills.
Inside Sunderland, there is growing frustration about the club's transfer activity, according to a Sky Sports journalist. Keith Downie spoke on Roker Report's Ha'way The Podcast and shared insights about the current situation at the Stadium of Light club. The mentioned reporter believes the collapsed signing of Sassuolo forward Armand Lauriente (26) sat very badly with Regis Le Bris, since the Frenchman doesn't want to give fans the image that they will start the season with the squad as it currently stands. Additionally, Downie commented that he expects Sunderland to finalize three or four more signings, bringing the total to 11 or 12 hires. Sunderland staff growing frustrated with lack of transfers, suggests Sky Sports man "I just feel there's frustration from Regis because he doesn't want fans thinking this is what we're going to start the season with. It is going to be different," began explaining Downie, in statements transcribed by the Sunderland Echo. "There has been a bit of a vacuum over the last three or four weeks where you haven't really added anyone, because the Lauriente deal fell through, until Xhaka arrived," the journalist added. "I would expect a little bit more of a flurry. Three or four more players before the end of the window, which should be exciting for you guys to see," he concluded. Recently, Sunderland have been linked with various forwards, such as Galatasaray's Baris Alper Yilmaz (25) or Leverkusen's Amine Adli (25). In recent hours, there also emerged a rumor about supposed interest from the Black Cats in RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda (25), but this was directly denied by Le Bris, who categorized this information as "false". Chelsea’s new ownership have focused on buying young players, and the figures from this summer show just how strong that commitment remains. According to TransferMarkt, 4 of the top 20 most valuable under 21 transfers of the summer were to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s young Brazilian ready to take the league by storm Top of the list at €60m is Estevao Willian. The Brazilian sensation signed over a year ago, and we’ve been waiting patiently to see him in action. It’s been a while since we were so excited to see an attacking player debut at Chelsea – you might have to go back all the way to Eden Hazard in 2012. Estevao is due to report for training at Cobham tomorrow. Amusingly, joint top with Estevao is Dean Huijsen. He was actually the first target Chelsea chased this summer, making serious moves to bring in the Bournemouth centre back before Real Madrid swooped in to pay his release clause and leave us in the dust. The rest of the Blues’ impressive imports Next comes Jamie Gittens at €50m, another thrilling one on one winger who we can’t wait to see taking on Premier League defenders after coming in from Dortmund. Further down the list we have Dario Essugo, who looks a smart pickup at €20m from Sporting. The tenacious ball winner will be supporting Moises Caicedo as a much needed defensive-minded body in midfield. He is being overshadowed a little by more glamorous attacking names, but don’t sleep on the Portugal international. Finally, also at €20m we have Mamadou Sarr. The defender has signed for the Blues from their sister club Strasbourg and then been loaned back. We won’t see him in action for us for a year at least, but we’re excited to see him continue his development.
The Los Angeles Lakers are so popular that they often seem like they’re at the center of the sports world. Yet, looking at the state of the franchise, they’re currently in the middle of two worlds. So, preparing for past and future as they head into the 2025-26 season, they’re faced with several burning questions. 3 Burning Questions For Lakers Heading Into 2025-26 Season Will Luka Doncic’s Weight Loss Pay Off? Last season, Lakers franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic was being shamed. At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, he undoubtedly has rare size as a natural point guard. Furthermore, Doncic isn’t afraid to get physical, so his physique was a strength in myriad ways. Yet, at a time when professional athletes are expected to be in peak condition, the 26-year-old was.. well.. pudgy. Doncic didn’t have to be ripped to make the game of basketball look like child’s play. Nonetheless, while Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison wasn’t the right messenger for an incensed franchise, there was some merit to his criticism. Doncic’s weight impacted his lateral movement, which in turn affected his defense. Though he’s had solid defensive performances, it’s a weak point for him. The number of injuries that Doncic has sustained in recent years could be partially attributed to his poor nutritional habits as well. That being said, the fact his conditioning was even a concern at all spoke to a lack of discipline and maturity. Now that Doncic is looking as sleek as ever though, the thinking is that his game will too. What’s The Deal With LeBron James? An educated guess is that LeBron James will at least begin next season with the Lakers. Yet, his behavior this offseason does deserve the speculation that it’s generated, not in the least because The Chosen One has a reputation for being Delphic. So many times this offseason, ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst’s infamous meme has been fitting for something James has done. Why is he at the Cleveland Cavaliers training facility? What are those Welcome Home hats about? Why hadn’t he welcomed 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart to the team by the time he had his introductory press conference? Why had he not been communicating with former No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton? Where was he when the Lakers held a presser for Doncic signing his max contract extension? What is this buzz that he’s been thinking about joining the Dallas Mavericks? At some point, it does start to look like James has started to look around for the exit sign, especially with his impending retirement and connection to the Cavs. All things being equal, he might already have walked out the door. Regardless of that, the Lakers have him under contract for at least one more season. With James returning, Doncic in arguably the best shape of his career, Austin Reaves entering his prime and a rotation with multiple players who have been high-level starters, L.A. is a legitimate title-contender. Will They Win It All? Not many teams have two players who are arguably in the top-10 on their roster. So, so long as the Lakers have James and Doncic, there won’t be a lot of competition for their top-end talent. In the regular season, this could be what leads them to beat up on the weaker teams. In the playoffs, it could be the difference making it to the next round or being eliminated. Basketball nor the NBA are always that cut-and-dry of black-and-white. However, the bottom line is that the Lakers have an advantage over most teams at the offensive end. There will likely be nights when they aren’t the most prolific 3-point shooting team. Yet, they have two perennial All-NBA players that excel at creating for themselves and others. With Reaves as an x-factor, they should be able to take on even the toughest defenses. Whether they can hold up at their own end defensively is another matter. Doncic still has to prove his weight loss will translate to improved point-of-attack defense. Reaves has been vulnerable when faced with athletic and skilled perimeter players. James’s activity level is seemingly impacted by his age and he’s not getting any younger. Smart has frequently been injured as of late. Ayton’s sputtering motor lowers ceiling (or, in this case, his hood).
