The 2025 French Open final was one of the most captivating matches tennis has ever seen, with Jannik Sinner eventually losing out to Carlos Alcaraz despite taking a comfortable lead.

Italian journalist Angelo Mangiante has shared what he witnessed from Sinner after the emotionally draining defeat to the world number two. Sinner was reportedly in tears after the match—not just because of the loss, but also due to the hostile reaction from the crowd, which added to the emotional toll of the occasion.

Sinner made a strong start in the French Open final, taking a two-set lead against Alcaraz, who looked to be heading for a swift defeat. However, Alcaraz managed to keep himself in the match by winning the third set 6-4, though the momentum still seemed to favour Sinner, with win predictions heavily tilted his way. The Italian world number one even found himself with three match points in the fourth set, but in a major twist, he failed to convert any of them. This gave Alcaraz the opportunity to level the match and force a deciding set. The Spaniard would go on to complete the comeback, winning the final set 7-6(2), delivering a heartbreaking defeat for Sinner.

Angelo Mangiante was scheduled to conduct a post-match interview with Jannik Sinner but was made to wait as the heartbroken Italian took time to compose himself. Speaking recently to Tutti Convocati, Mangiante revealed that Sinner had been delayed due to an emotional response following the loss:

“I felt bad for Sinner when he came to do the post-match interview and apologized for the delay, saying he had been crying for fifteen minutes in the locker room".

Mangiante also added that Sinner was hurt by the reaction of the crowd during the match:

“He didn’t expect the crowd to be against him, and he was upset about that too. He’s trying to move on".

Following the crushing defeat, Sinner took a brief break from tennis, presumably to refresh and reset ahead of Wimbledon. He returned to action at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, where he began his grass-court preparations. However, his comeback was cut short with a round-of-16 loss to Alexander Bublik.

Before that tournament began, Sinner spoke about how he was processing the disappointment of the French Open final:

“I think that for me to play another tournament is positive, because every match is a new beginning, and I must be mentally ready to give my all on the court. Therefore, it is great that I can be here in Halle. But yes, I’ve already had a few sleepless nights, but I think every day it gets better".

Sinner will now shift his focus to Wimbledon, where he enters as the top seed. The Italian will be hoping for a strong run at SW19, aiming to bounce back and deliver more thrilling performances as the tournament unfolds.
