'I hate disappointing people': Naomi Osaka cries in press conference after Badosa loss
IPA

Naomi Osaka attended the Roland Garros press conference in tears after falling to Paula Badosa in the opening round. The four-time Grand Slam champion cried due to the disappointment of an early exit from the French Open, despite arriving with high hopes after 8 victories in her previous 9 clay-court matches.

However, she faced a tough draw against world No. 10 Badosa, who has always felt comfortable on clay courts. The Japanese star fought to secure a tight first set, but was outplayed by the Spaniard from that point on, and errors ultimately cost Osaka the match.

The former world No. 1 has been trying to regain her best level for several seasons. While she's had some good wins and deep runs, early exits in some tournaments continue to leave her disappointed with not achieving the expected results.

During the press conference, Osaka stated that she hates to "disappoint people." The world No. 49 concludes her clay-court swing in the first round of the French Open. She also highlighted the work with her coach and expressed regret about disappointing him. "As time goes on I feel like I should be doing better," she said through tears. "I hate disappointing people. Even with Patrick (Mouratoglou) I was thinking just now that he goes from working with like the greatest player ever to like… what the f--- this is."

Osaka was referring to Mouratoglou's previous work with Serena Williams, whom he helped win 10 Grand Slam titles, the 2012 Olympic Games gold medal, and 3 WTA Finals. The Frenchman has also coached other high-profile players, such as Grigor Dimitrov, Simona Halep, and Holger Rune.

Osaka will have a couple of weeks to regroup ahead of her next challenges, with Wimbledon in a month as the main objective.
