'I need rest and treatment': Hubert Hurkacz withdraws from Wimbledon due to injury setback
Sipa Press

Hubert Hurkacz has announced his withdrawal from the Wimbledon draw after experiencing a recurrence of discomfort related to his previous surgery. The Polish player was slated to face local favorite Billy Harris this Monday but will now be replaced by a lucky loser.

Hurkacz has had a challenging past year. He underwent meniscus surgery in 2024 and has not been entirely free of physical discomfort since. The former world No. 6 has progressively fallen in the rankings due to a lack of tournaments played and several withdrawals, which have left him practically outside the top 40.

Recently, Hurkacz had opted not to play the Halle Open, where he was scheduled to debut against Tomáš Macháč, though it seemed like a precautionary measure at the time. However, today, Hurkacz chose to withdraw from Wimbledon because he still doesn't feel 100% physically, with an old discomfort resurfacing.

"Together with my team, I’ve made the decision to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon," he captioned on his Instagram stories. "During my preparations, my body reacted – synovial membrane irritation – which is part of the recovery process from my surgery. It needs rest and treatment, and I need to listen to my body. Thank you for all the love and support – it means the world. I’ll be back soon."

Hurkacz will miss one of his favorite tournaments, where he has displayed some of his best tennis. In 2021, he achieved his best Grand Slam performance by reaching the semifinals, ultimately falling to Italian Matteo Berrettini.
