'I see two points of view': Daniil Medvedev expresses optimism about returning to form after disappointing run
IPA

Russia’s Daniil Medvedev has opened up about his recent struggles and stated that he is looking to fight back. The 29-year-old was once regarded as the best player currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.

Medvedev has been going through a difficult phase. The Moscow-born star was knocked out from the first Grand Slam of the year — the Australian Open — after losing to America’s Learner Tien with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 1-6, 7-6.

Medvedev then lost to Mattia Bellucci in the ATP Rotterdam event in the round of 16 with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Medvedev lost in the semifinal of the Open 13 to Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic with a score of 6-3, 6-2. His last appearance was at the Qatar Open, where he was forced to retire in the quarterfinal because of a fitness concern. Medvedev has recently been quoted in a report in which he spoke about his struggles. The one-time Grand Slam expressed optimism that he will be able to return to the court.

"I see two points of view,” he said. “One is, lately it's been a little bit tough for me. You know, my level has dropped a little bit. I lost more matches than I generally do. So it's the reality. And at the same time, I proved numerous times that when I play my best tennis, when in my best shape, I can beat anyone. And that are my chances if I manage to come back to my form, I know I did that a little bit in Doha. I want to try to do it here (in Dubai). Then I have the chance of winning another Grand Slam or more. If I don't, then it's going to be tougher . So I just need to fight, work hard and try to beat some guys that are at the moment stronger than me.”
