'I think I passed the test': Carlos Alcaraz feeling good and ready at Rome Open after opening win
LaPresse

Carlos Alcaraz was unable to play the Madrid Open due to thigh problems. He was a doubt for the Rome Masters, but finally he was able to make his debut at the Foro Italico.

He did it in the best possible way, with an uncontested victory over Lajovic in two sets. After the match, in the on-court interview with the organization of the Masters 1000, Carlitos said that he had not felt any pain in the area that prevented him from playing in Madrid just a few days ago:

"I feel very good in my body. After today's match, I think I moved well. I did some good sprints today without any pain. It's been great. It was a pleasure for me. I think I passed the test. Trying to feel more comfortable on the court, moving without thinking about the injury. I think today was a good day at the office. Hopefully tomorrow and Sunday will be better."

We will see how Carlitos' body continues to evolve. Of course, if we see him like today in his debut, it seems that he will be able to go very far in a tournament that due to the clay conditions can be especially good for him. Logically, the important thing for him is to arrive in good conditions to Paris and, after not being able to play Madrid, it was good that at least he could play some matches on Italian soil. We will see what he can do. If his forehand keeps working like this we can (why not?) dream of a final against the returned Jannik Sinner;

"During these days without competing, I have focused on seeing the positive side of everything. I have enjoyed more time at home, surrounded by my family and friends, and I have taken the opportunity to recover and clear my head mentally. Today, after the injury, I managed to perform at a high level. It was a surprise for me and I'm very happy about it, Carlitos ended saying about his feelings in his debut.
