'I would never underestimate him': Former world number one makes one damming prediction about Novak Djokovic

Former world number one Chris Evert has cast doubt on Serbia’s Novak Djokovic's possibility of winning another Grand Slam. The 37-year-old is regarded as the Greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won 24 Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.

Djokovic is going through a rough patch, according to his high standards. The former world number one has not won a Grand Slam or an ATP event since the start of 2024. During this phase, his only big achievement was winning an Olympic gold medal for his country at the Paris Olympics. This year, Djokovic has played in seven different competitions and suffered a knockout after losing a first match on four occasions.

His most recent appearance was in the Madrid Open, where he was knocked out after losing in the round of 64 to Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Former world number one Evert has recently spoken to Forbes, where she cast doubts about Djokovic winning another Grand Slam in his career. The 70-year-old stated that she is not ‘underestimating’ him, but does not believe that the Belgrade-born star will win the French Open this year as well.

“I would never underestimate him, but I would be surprised if he won another major, let’s put it that way,” she said. “I would never say he’s not going to win, I would be surprised, I would be pleasantly surprised, just with his results in the past and he’s human and I’m not feeling it. I mean, you’ve got to give the guy credit- this guy’s won everything, more than anybody. I’ve seen him play brilliantly on grass, and he’s won Wimbledon so many times, that’s why I can’t say 'no, he’s not going to win another one,' I don’t think it’s going to be the French Open, but you can never count him out.”
