Holger Rune is out of Wimbledon having been dumped out by Nicolas Jarry 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the end. The Dane looked comfortable in the opening two sets and saw the match slip away
This amid the return of a troubling knee injury which saw him fade in the later stages. He said he wasn't able to serve and use his backhand like he was in the first two sets.
He said that he would beat Jarry nine times out of 10 who came through qualifying after a slump over the last season.
“I started all right in the match, playing well,” Rune said. “Then third set, a bit unlucky. Fourth set, I started to feel my knee and got some treatment. I was never able to serve and hit my backhand as I did in the first two sets.”
“I’ve had it before (the injury). Especially being extremely low on the grass, it can bother that area. I didn’t expect it to come back, but it did.”
“If I play normal, I’m beating him nine out of ten times — with all respect for Nicolás Jarry.”
“I’m going to check now with the head doctor and physio and will take it from there. I don’t know if it’s worse now, or better, or the same. It needs to be examined.”
After his loss to Jarry at Wimbledon, Holger Rune says he would beat him 9 out of 10 times in normal conditions:
