Iga Swiatek has already had an accomplished tennis career despite being only 24. However, the surface of grass is where she doesn’t have great memories in her senior level.
After reaching the final in Bad Homburg, she hopes to elevate her performance at Wimbledon. So far, it’s been good for the former World No.1 as she has made it to the second week at SW19. She also admitted that the love affair with the grass courts is there. Swiatek said in her post-match interview at Wimbledon:
Yeah. It’s much more fun this year. I had some practices where the ball was listening to me which was pretty new on grass. I’m looking for that feeling on the match as well. Today was a good day. In Bad Homburg as well I played many good matches. It’s giving me confidence. It’s a new experience, feeling good on grass.
Swiatek has won 22 career titles. However, none of them have come on the green lawns. In fact, the final she made at Bad Homburg was the first grass final that she contested in. The Polish player lost in straight sets to Jessica Pegula in the final.

Iga: “I was just in the zone you know. I knew what I wanted to play. I knew I need to be brave and let my hand do the job. Play fast and proactive from the beginning. You can’t let Danielle play her winners. I’m really happy.… pic.twitter.com/KNkyi27sk1
Swiatek’s best result at Wimbledon is the quarterfinals, which came in 2023. Last year, she lost in the third round to Yulia Putintseva.
Clara Tauson has matched her best Grand Slam performance by reaching the Round of 16, replicating her 2023 French Open run. That campaign ended with a loss to Ons Jabeur.
If Tauson wins on Monday, she would make Danish tennis history. No Danish woman has gone further at Wimbledon in the Open Era. Caroline Wozniacki reached the fourth round six times but never progressed beyond that.
Elena Rybakina had a disappointing exit, falling short in a draw that had already lost six of the top 10 seeds. It was her first time failing to make the fourth round at Wimbledon in five appearances.
Swiatek and Tauson have met once before, at Indian Wells three years ago. Swiatek won in three sets, but Tauson was still a teenager then. With Rybakina out, the highest remaining seeds in the bottom half are Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva, who could clash in the semifinals.
Eighth seed Iga Swiatek secured a strong 6-2, 6-3 win over Danielle Collins on Centre Court, moving one step closer to matching her best Wimbledon performance. She dominated from the start and didn’t drop serve once in the match.
Swiatek will now face Clara Tauson in the fourth round on Monday. Tauson upset 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets. The Danish player had never won a main-draw match at Wimbledon until this year but has now won three in a row.
After her Roland Garros semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek chose to skip WTA events in Queen’s and Berlin. Instead, she trained on grass in Mallorca. That decision paid off, helping her gain confidence before the tournament.
With her victory over Collins, Swiatek improved to 8-2 against her. This marks her 19th Round of 16 appearance at a Grand Slam, the most by any woman since her debut in 2019. In contrast, Tauson is playing in just her second.
