Injury woes continue for Paula Badosa, out of Rome Open as Petra Kvitova also withdraws

It is bad injury news this morning for fans of Paula Badosa and Petra Kvitova with both out of the Rome Open having withdrawn on the eve of their matches at the Foro Italico.

Badosa who worked so hard to get back after her persistent back injury confirmed the toll of it earlier this week that she will likely need to retire young then be operated on straight away. She has not played since the second round of Miami where she won and handed a walkover to Alexandra Eala.

She withdrew two weeks ago from her home event in Madrid and has done so again here after one of the games of the day against Naomi Osaka was set. Osaka will now face off against Viktorija Golubic in the second round after a great week for the former World No.1 seeing her continue her winning form. This after winning the Saint Malo Challenger.

It is once again disappointment for Badosa who has not been the same since she got injured again at the Merida Open Akron. While it is a constant injury she has to manage, she finally put a run together.

The same can be said for Petra Kvitova who has handed Ons Jabeur a walkover as a result. The multiple Grand Slam champion finally sealed her first win since her return and was feeling good it seems.

But she won't follow it up as she has withdrawn on the eve of facing the Tunisian and seemingly unlike Badosa, it was a late decision as no Lucky Loser could be sought to replace her and so Jabeur heads through.

With Marketa Vondrousova yesterday, Barbora Krecjikova consistently missing, the WTA stars seem to not be having the easiest time bouncing back from injury and it is a shame for two of the ties of the day from the WTA Draw which now won't take place at the Rome Open.
