Jerome Kym is not a household name just yet but the 22 year old Swiss tennis player may just be on his way. It is not easy to uphold a tennis legacy that comprises of the likes of Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka but it is a great goal to have and achieve.

Who Is Jerome Kym?

Kym hails from Rheinfelden in Switzerland and stands tall at almost six and a half feet. He is currently ranked 144 in the world and is the current Swiss number one tennis player.

2025 season

Kym has so far been competing on the Challenger Tour with unsuccessful attempts at qualifying for the ATP main draw events. That changed this week at the ATP Gstaad Open 2025 thanks to a wild card for the home favourite.

Kym made full use of the wild card given to him compiling two wins for his first ever at the main tour level and his loss to Arthur Cazaux in the quarterfinals was a tough three setter.

The three matches involving Kym enjoyed a fantastic crowd support highlighting the excitement in his game and overall progress.

Gamestyle

Naturally since Kym is quite tall, he averaged around ten aces per match on the clay where the ball checks up a bit. He also averaged thirty winners and his unforced error count didn’t exceed the winners count by much.

Kym has a short swing on the forehand and while that shot will definitely mature as he plays more on the main tour, his backhand is solid which is so vital in today’s baseline intensive game.

Kym is not afraid to charge the net and his volley skills are top notch. His drop shot can use some refinement but overall as Kym showed this week, he should be playing more main draw events as he is talented enough to go toe to toe with the top 100 players.

What’s Next?

In my opinion, the immediate goal for him is to qualify more often for the main draw events. That way he will build up ranking points and soon he will automatically entering the main draws.

In 2024 he won two challenger events but hasn’t won any this year. While he should focus on qualifying more often, he would still need those challenger event wins to cement a winning mentality in him.

While some would say he got lucky with a wild card in his home country tournament, there was no luck in the way he played this week and only time will tell what the future may hold for the next potential Swiss tennis star.
