Tennis great Andre Agassi was a recent guest on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, where the eight-time Grand Slam champion recalled a humorous anecdote in which he realized he would never be able to get the best of Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal on a tennis court.
Although Nadal emerged during the twilight of Agassi's career, the duo crossed paths on two occasions. Nadal prevailed in both meetings, the 2005 Montreal Masters and the 2006 Wimbledon Championships.
During his appearance on Roddick's podcast, the 55-year old spoke about the ongoing French Open. Additionally, the two retired American players shared some stories, one of which centered around when Agassi realized he would never be able to defeat Nadal due to the Spaniard's intense nature.
"I was the the French Open," began Agassi. "I don't remember what year its was. And here's this 17-year old kid. And remember those lockers where they used to click them, right?
"I could see him through lockers, and he looks at his code. And I'm thinking 'Oh he's a rookie, he doesn't know how to figure it out.' It doesn't open and he like (shakes it and grunts), and he starts again, he looks at his code and shakes it and it still doesn't open.
"He goes BAM and he hits the locker. I'm not kidding, as God is my witness, he hits the locker and I'm going...'is this kid serious?'
"He tries it again and it opens and this kid goes..VAMOS!! He was like in a war with the locker and he was going to win it. And he won it. And so I go, I can't beat this guy."
