'It will happen sooner than later' - Legendary tennis coach predicts Iga Swiatek will regain World No.1 ranking

After her triumphant return to Grand Slam glory at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Iga Swiatek has been backed to regain her position as the best player in the world, according to renown tennis coach Rick Macci.

The distinguished American coach is well known in the tennis community, having trained several ATP and WTA stars in their early years. The likes of WTA legend Serena Williams, multiple-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and 2003 US Open titlist Andy Roddick have all received training from Macci during their rise on the professional circuit.

The Polish star had been on a title drought for over a year, having won her last title at the 2024 French Open. Swiatek would fall in the final of the 2024 Olympic Games to China's Qinwen Zheng and faced some difficulty as she struggled to regain her form.

The 24-year old would attempt to re-establish herself at the start of the 2025 season, but was defeated in the semifinals by eventual champion Madison Keys at the Australian Open. With her ranking falling to as low as World No.8 at the start of Wimbledon, several did not have Swiatek penciled in as the sole survivor at SW19. However, she displayed some of her best tennis of the season to reach the final, before totally outplaying American Amanda Anisimova to claim her maiden Wimbledon title.

Swiatek starting a new chapter in her career, says Macci

Following her splendid performance at SW19, Macci believes Swiatek is on the road to reclaiming her World No.1 ranking. With her ranking climbing back up to World No.3 on the WTA Rankings, the Warsaw native appears to have rediscovered her form and could again be the top player in the world in a matter of months.

"What we saw with Iga and the backdrop of her ranking dropping to an all time low and many speed bumps mentally on her best surface for her to flip that script and write a new chapter shows her greatness as one of all time Adapters,” wrote Macci on Twitter. "It will happen sooner than later as Iga will again be number one on the planet because her mind is made of granite.
"Not a lot of points to defend and the Polish Punisher will be number one by years end. Iga is breaking more records than the Beatles.
“If you back the truck up and take a look at her career she is the best player this century and her number one hit all time is winning 37 in a row. You win 37 in a row in ANYTHING there is no debate your an all time great."
