'It would be stupid to expect a lot': Dejected Iga Swiatek not expecting a lot at Roland Garros as Queen of Clay crown slips

Iga Swiatek was soundly beaten again on her favourite surface as doubts continue to creep in for the Queen of Clay ahead of her title defence in just over a fortnight.

Swiatek lost 6-1, 7-5 in favour of Danielle Collins who has only beaten her once and has barely laid a glove on her since she beat her at the Australian Open including last summer at the Olympic Games.

But this is a different Swiatek who appeared dejected and void of answers during her post match press conference. After losses to Andreeva, Eala, Ostapenko and Gauff since Indian Wells, she will plummet out of the top four and is in huge danger going into Roland Garros of falling even more.

She only holds Roland Garros for the first time in many years and said she is doing something wrong and knows what she needs to correct as per her team. But also she said it is stupid to expect a lot at Roland Garros.

“Obviously it would be stupid to expect a lot because I’m not able to play my game right now,” said Swiatek.

"I think I just wasn’t present to fight and to compete,” she added. “I focused on mistakes and it’s my mistake and I’m not doing things right. The focus is on the wrong things from my side and I’ll try to change it."

"I’m doing something wrong, so I need to just regroup and change some stuff. I heard some ideas from the team, so I’ll just try to do that in next weeks.”
