Jack Draper put together a strong 2025 campaign on the ATP Tour, though it was cut short by injury.
The British number one, who had reached a career-high ranking of world number four in June, was sidelined for the rest of the season due to bone bruising in his arm.
In March, Draper secured his first ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells. His run to the trophy included victories over significant opponents such as Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, and Ben Shelton.
Along with his triumph at Indian Wells, Draper also made finals appearances at both the Qatar Open and Madrid Open, further cementing his place among the top players on tour.
Draper’s breakthrough came in 2024, when he first established himself among the elite. He recently spoke about a point during that season when he realised changes were necessary to reach his current level in 2025.
Speaking with ‘The Tennis Mentor’, Draper said: “Coaches always say you have got to be more attacking, and that is all good and well, but I feel like, as a player, you have got to experience losing matches because you’re not doing the right thing.
“I went through a period when I was about 40th in the world last year, and I lost four matches 7-6 in the third [set] against really top players.
“That was a moment where I had to look at myself and think that I need to go out there and win those matches. They are not just going to give it to me in those tight moments.
“It was that moment in my head where I thought, if I want to be a really great player then I have to be a complete player, not just someone who is going to make them miss.
“Also, from my perspective, it is a fun way of playing tennis. You watch guys like Alcaraz and Sinner at the moment and they are playing so freely.
“I think that is a big part of the sport right now, to just express yourself on the court,” he concluded.
Draper is one of the limited number of ATP Tour players to have secured tour-level victories against both Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz.
His first meeting with Sinner was at Queen’s in 2021, where the Briton came out on top in a tight match, winning 7-6, 7-6.
The Italian got his revenge three years later, defeating Draper in straight sets during the semi-finals of the 2024 US Open.
Against Alcaraz, Draper holds two wins from six meetings. His first win over the Spaniard also came at Queen’s, but in 2024.
He beat the Spaniard again at Indian Wells in 2025, but has more recently lost to him at this year’s Italian Open.
