Jannik Sinner involved in bizarre fan incident in Saudi Arabia

In a strange turn of events, World No. 2 Jannik Sinner was taken aback Wednesday when a fan in Saudi Arabia ran onto the court and asked for his jacket.

The Netflix cameras captured the incident after the Italian finished his on-court interview following his 6-2, 6-3 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament.

Jannik Sinner spooked by a fan

As seen in the video below, Sinner initially maintained a calm demeanor, shaking hands with the fan and engaging in conversation with him. However, his calmness quickly turned to fright when he realized that the intruder was not a part of the tournament staff, but just a random fan. Fortunately, security personnel promptly arrived at the scene and removed the fan from the premises.

Jannik Sinner sets up Novak Djokovic clash

Incidentally, the four-time Grand Slam champion faced a similar issue at this year's U.S. Open when a spectator tried to open his bag while he was signing autographs. Sinner brushed off the incident, while noting that he didn't have any valuables in his bag, save for tennis equipment.

With his win on Wednesday, Sinner set up a semifinal clash against Novak Djokovic, whom he has defeated in five consecutive matches, including back-to-back semifinals at the French Open and Wimbledon. Looking ahead to the matchup, Sinner downplayed his recent winning streak against the Serbian, while expecting a competitive outing.

"It's a huge honor to play again, against a legend like Novak," Sinner said, via The Independent. "It's great to have him still here playing in the highest level of our sport. He's a great role model. He's still hungry to win big titles and and that's why he still keeps playing. Hopefully it's going to be interesting tomorrow."

The winner of the Djokovic versus Sinner semifinal will play either World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz or Taylor Fritz in Saturday's final. Sinner, who defeated Alcaraz in last year's final to earn a record $6M paycheck, is admittedly "motivated" to go the distance again.
