Jannik Sinner has reclaimed the World No.1 ranking after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4 7-6 in the final of the Rolex Paris Masters.

The Italian, who started the year as the World No.1 player, will head into the final tournament of the season in the same position, where he and Carlos Alcaraz will not only be competing for the Nitto ATP Finals title but also the year-end No.1 ranking.

Sinner Too Strong Despite Auger-Aliassime’s Fight

Auger-Aliassime entered the match searching for the biggest title of his career and started nervously, getting broken in his opening service game after making some uncharacteristic errors.

The rest of the first set was highly competitive, with both players defending their serves well. The Italian did have a break point early on to go up a double break, but after Auger-Aliassime saved that, the remainder of the set went without much drama as Sinner closed it out 6-4.

The second set of the match was even more competitive and arguably the best set of tennis of the tournament. Both players played aggressive tennis from the baseline, served well, and produced more winners than errors. It looked like the match would end quickly as Sinner generated multiple break points in the seventh game of the set, but the Canadian held firm.

The set eventually went to a tiebreak, where the Italian, like he has done for over two years now, proved too strong under pressure. Despite great resistance from Auger-Aliassime, Sinner found a way, sealing the set, the match, and the title 6-4 7-6.

Sinner, Alcaraz, and Auger Aliassime Set Sights on Turin

This was Sinner’s fifth title of 2025 and, surprisingly, his first Masters 1000 victory of the year. The Italian, who had held the No.1 ranking for 65 consecutive weeks from 2024 to 2025, is back at the top after losing that spot to rival Alcaraz following the US Open.

The two will now battle for the year-end No.1 honours in Turin. Alcaraz needs to win three matches to secure it, while Sinner must win the title undefeated unless the Spaniard suffers a total collapse.

For Felix Auger-Aliassime, this result likely secures his place in Turin as well. Lorenzo Musetti would need to reach the final in Athens to overtake him. Still, the Canadian remains entered in next week’s ATP 250 Metz Open to completely guarantee his qualification for the season-ending event.
