Tournament weeks are usually all about routines practice courts, recovery sessions, and staying locked in before the matches begin. But every now and then, even the biggest names on tour find a moment to step outside the tennis bubble and soak in what a host city has to offer. That’s been the vibe in Doha this week as players settle in for the Qatar Open, balancing competition with a bit of downtime.
For Jannik Sinner, that break from the usual rhythm turned into an unexpectedly memorable moment one that drew the attention of fellow stars like Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev. What started as a casual off-court activity quickly became a highlight of the week.
In a video posted on Instagram, Jannik Sinner is seen out on a boat enjoying some downtime with fellow stars Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. The clip starts with the group casually fishing, before Sinner suddenly reels in a surprisingly big catch. As he lifts the fish onto the boat, the camera swings over to the others, who can’t hide their excitement cheering, laughing, and clearly impressed by the size of it.

Fans had a lot to say as the video was shared online as well, some impressed with Sinner others more skeptical of the legitimacy of the catch.
One fan commented on the video saying, “why is this so wholesome the whole boat losing it over one fish is elite vibes.”
An extremely skeptical fan said,”Looks pre-caught. And almost dead. All for the cameras. That dweep couldn't catch a cold.”
“jannik greatest achievement”- claimed another fan
Another fan questioned their dressing saying, “Why are they wearing Sarung?”
With the Qatar Open now underway and wrapping up on 21 February, the spotlight isn’t just on who lifts the trophy it’s also on the business side of the event. Reports suggest that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were each paid around $1.2 million simply to show up in Doha, a figure that reportedly exceeds the tournament’s winner’s cheque of about $529,945.
That’s not unusual at ATP 500 events, where appearance fees are often used to secure the biggest names and boost interest. Still, it’s a reminder that attracting the sport’s top stars comes with a hefty price tag and sometimes the biggest earnings happen before the first ball is even hit.
