Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic played out an exciting Australian Open final at Rod Laver Arena, where the Spaniard emerged victorious.
Alcaraz battled past Djokovic after three hours and two minutes of action in Melbourne, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
The ATP number one clinched his maiden Australian Open title, and in doing so completed the career Grand Slam.
He’s the youngest man to achieve the feat, and is now a seven-time Grand Slam champion at the age of just 22.
Several stars were in attendance for the blockbuster final, including three-time Grand Slam winner Jennifer Capriati.
Taking to social media after the match, she posted a photo of the trophy ceremony and wrote on X: “This was a dream come true. A privilege to watch Novak live.
“As well as Carlos who is so impressive in the way he handled that kind of pressure and kept composure. Congratulations to both champions.”
Just like Djokovic and Alcaraz, Capriati reached number one in the world rankings during her glittering career.
The American won two of her three Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open, with the other having arrived at the French Open.
Capriati wasn’t the only tennis icon to have tuned in to the Grand Slam, with Genie Bouchard also sharing her take.
The Canadian wrote on X: “What an Aus Open! Rybakina solidifying herself amongst the elite and Alcaraz breaking records… wow!”
Bouchard knows all about competing at the highest level, although Grand Slam success did elude the former WTA favorite.
She lost the 2014 Wimbledon final to Petra Kvitova, although she clinched the title in Nurnberg that same year, when Bouchard also climbed to a career-high rank of five.
Rybakina incidentally is up to world number three following her success in Melbourne, which represents her second career Grand Slam title.
